"If we really believe that children are our future, we have to invest in them from the beginning because proper investments pay out over time."

This campaign is not about me; this campaign is about all of us, the working families of WNY New York. How many of you know someone that has transitioned from Welfare to Work, or someone who is trying to raise a family only to find themselves working on a job that doesn’t pay a living wage, a job that not provide healthcare benefits and only offers part time hours.

This campaign is about working families like you and me who want to offer a future with a vision of hope for our children. To begin their preparation for life we have to begin with a sound basic education.

Education is Critical to the Future of WNY.
There are so many educational challenges facing us today that require us to come together as legislators to begin investing for the future of our children.

• We live in a state where 40% of the population does not graduate from high school
• In Buffalo, students attend schools where classroom are severely overcrowded
• Schools with computer labs but no computer teachers
• Schools with libraries and no librarians

As your State Senator I will work hard to fix these types of problems, because I believe that every American resident should have access to a Sound Basic Education in a Safe Neighborhood.

Education is a life long process. By supporting education, I am supporting all aspects of education from early intervention family education, Pre-K-12th grade and of course institutions of higher learning whether a person’s choice is college or a technical/trade school.

Educating our children begins the day of conception. Too many working families are left behind because of environmental circumstances. We need to do more than fight for Pre-K, we need to expand successful existing programs like the Even Start Family Literacy Program, a program designed to provide low-income families with integrated literacy services for parents and their young children (birth through age 7). The purpose of the program is to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy for low-income families through adult education, early childhood education, parenting education, and interactive literacy activities for parents in order to bring lasting change and improve children’s school success.

Even Start Family Literacy Program will give our youngest citizen and their parents the strong foundation that they need and deserve. Children need to be prepared when they enter school so they can play catch during summer vacation and not catch up in summer school.

A Quality Education is the key to every child’s future. In New York State, we have students who are struggling because they are met with so many obstacles.

• A Governor who believes that an 8th grade education is enough
• Schools with outdated books
• Schools that do not allow students to take their books home to complete homework assignments
• Overcrowded schools with outmoded facilities
